Dark Elves in Games:
Lineage II

(The text below is lifted from my Lineage II Dark Elves fanlisting.)

The Dark Elves in the realm of Lineage II used to be a subrace of Elves called Brown Elves. The Elves used to be the most powerful race, but the Humans eventually rose to power. Losing their willingness to fight, the Elves stepped down and gave way to the Humans.

However, the Brown Elves refused to let the Humans be in control. They insisted that the Elves continue the battle with the humans, even if it takes using forbidden black magic to win. The Elves refused to do so.

A human mage named Dasparion came to the King of the Brown Elves and made an offer. He would teach the Brown Elves dark magic in order to attain the power they desire in exchange for the secret of eternal life. In addition, he said that the Tree Elves (another Elven subrace) and their supporters feared that the Brown Elves would attack their own kind once they attained power, or that they would enrage the humans. The Brown Elves accepted his offer and learned the dark arts.

When the Elves learned about this, they banished the Brown Elves. Acting upon a plot thought up by Dasparion, they used their dark magic to massacre the Tree Elves. Before they breathed their last, the Tree Elves laid a curse upon the Brown Elves, destroying the woods where they lived, altering their appearance and making them intolerant to sunlight. Transformed into a race of darkness, the Brown Elves came to be known as Dark Elves.

In appearance, Dark Elves look similar to normal Elves, but they have black/white/silver hair, and blue-gray skin. In contrast to the light-colored and elegant clothing the Elves wear, the Dark Elves wear darker clothes that expose a lot of skin.

The Dark Elven Village is located up north, in the mountain ranges. Their town is located underground, possibly since they are said to be vulnerable to sunlight, but they eventually managed to overcome this vulnerability through the use of magic.
